Strategic issues of the College of Engineering

The strategic plan of the College of Engineering depends on eight tracks and four dimensions of AAFAQ that represent all the components of university education. Based on the evaluation of the current state of each track, the College defines a set of strategic issues as in the following:

  1. Acceptance and admission: Based on the diagnosis of the current system for acceptance and admission, the College defined the following three issues:
    1. Capacity
    2. Meeting the future requirements and the needs of the labor market
    3. Academic performance
  2. Faculty: based on the current state of the faculty, the College defined the following four issues:
    1. The number of Faculty
    2. Faculty members distribution
    3. Faculty competency
    4. Faculty performance
  3. Employees: based on the current state for the employees, the College defined the following two issues:
    1. Employees qualifications
    2. Employees' skills
  4. Students: this track concerns Increasing competitiveness of the students and developing their skills and performance through various programs and activities. The College defined the following six issues:
    1. Motivation
    2. Student's abilities
    3. Improving skills
    4. Disabled persons
    5. Summer training
    6. Gifted persons
  5. Programs and curricula: This track aims to develop the intended learning outcome, teaching and learning techniques. Also, it focuses on developing the assessment and innovation models concerning the learning outcomes of the secondary education program. Moreover, enhancing the quality of programs and access to national and international accreditation. The College defined the following five strategic issues:
    1. Secondary educational learning outcomes
    2. The educational content
    3. Teaching methods
    4. Patterns of evaluation
    5. Quality assurance
  6. Research and innovation: In this track, the college aims to provide sufficient numbers of researchers, expansion in spending on scientific research, and increasing productivity of research and innovation. This track includes two strategic issues:
    1. Motivation of scientific research
    2. Motivation of innovation
  7. Funding: this track is concerned with the provision of free university education and diversify sources of funding for College activities. This includes two issues as follows:
    1. Sources of funding
    2. Funding requirements
  8. Governance: This track is concerned with enhancing the flexibility and response of the top and executive management (centralization vs. decentralization). The college defined three strategic issues for this track:
    1. Flexibility and response
    2. Delegation and integration
    3. Management systems
