The establishment of the Department of Architecture and Planning at King Khalid University has been approved since 1426 AH. The idea of establishing this department comes because of the growing need for architects and planners from the people of the region to contribute to the development and renaissance of the region, especially since the region is on the verge of a major development renaissance, in light of the existence of a legacy A very large and diverse cultural, urban, and heritage that requires highlighting and preserving it in a way that befits the ancient history of the region and the honorable people of this region, and in order for it to become a tourist investment attraction for the region.
And based on the principle of contributing to advancing development and the national economy, and in line with the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Education that target the quality of education, focus has been placed on employing the outputs of education in the development process in order to achieve harmonization and harmony between the outputs, development programs and the needs of the labor market, so that the graduates are architectural cadres qualified, by providing them with professional, technical, engineering, cultural and administrative knowledge and skills, to build their capabilities and qualify them with the necessary skills for the labor market that enable them to pursue their future goals and aspirations, and by focusing on architectural design education (architectural design ceremonies / studios) supported by a set of courses in architecture , planning, technology, and computer applications in the field of architecture and planning, architectural history, architectural theories, and urban heritage in the Kingdom and Asir in particular, which are taught by a group of faculty members specialized in these fields.
Also, one of the goals that this department seeks to achieve is to provide distinguished, creative and stimulating education for academic, research and community creative work on the basis of international education quality standards, and to simulate study plans for faculties of architecture and planning in distinguished universities locally and internationally as a starting point for this department, and to work for the department to be a unique center Locally and regionally in the field of education and preparation of qualified architects for the labor market from the first day after their graduation. The department also aims to activate scientific research and link it to the tangible reality through field research and postgraduate studies, communication with local, regional and global educational organizations and bodies, exchange of experiences, transfer and localization of modern technologies.
In conclusion, we extend our praise, thanks, and praise to God Almighty for the success He has bestowed upon us with the opening of the Department of Architecture and Planning, and sincere thanks are extended to His Excellency the Rector of the University and His Excellency the Dean of the College of Engineering for their generous support for this department. I also extend my sincere thanks to fellow faculty members, lecturers, and teaching assistants in the department for their active contribution to the establishment of this department. All of us have thanks and gratitude, and we ask God Almighty to make their efforts in the balance of their good deeds.
