Floating Concrete from waste Polystyrene; Workshop – College of Engineering, King Khalid University

Floating Concrete from waste Polystyrene; Workshop – College of Engineering, King Khalid University

The session explored the innovative concept of lightweight concrete capable of floating on water. Participants learned about the relationship between the water–cement ratio (W/C), aggregate size, and slump test results, and how these factors influence both workability and compressive strength.

Through practical demonstrations, students observed how reducing density below that of water allows concrete to float successfully. The workshop also highlighted creative uses of coffee waste and shampoo additives to improve sustainability and lightness.

The event witnessed strong attendance and valuable engagement from students interested in modern concrete technologies and sustainable construction materials.
