This thesis presents the design and simulation of an integrated smart home automation system for a residential unit in Abha, Saudi Arabia, using MATLAB/Simulink. The proposed model combines four main subsystems within one unified framework: the HVAC subsystem, the smart lighting subsystem, the smart security subsystem, and the Home Energy Management System (HEMS). The simulation results showed that the developed model could represent coordinated operation among the main smart home subsystems. The HVAC controllers produced different temperature-control behaviors, while the lighting and security subsystems demonstrated valid functional responses. The HEMS was also shown to influence the lighting subsystem during high-load conditions. Overall, the proposed model provides a practical simulation framework for studying integrated smart home operation and supervisory residential energy management.
