Admission requirements
Article XII
The University Council determines the number of students who will be accepted annually in postgraduate studies, based on the recommendation of the Council of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies, and the proposal of the department and college councils.
Executive rules:
- The Deanship of Postgraduate Studies sets the steps and procedures to be followed for admission and registration.
- 2- Every year, the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies coordinates with the relevant colleges and departments to raise its recommendations regarding the numbers of students proposed to be accepted in each program, provided that the numbers of students are determined programs based on: a) The capacity of each department, so that the admission rate does not exceed (1:5) five students for each faculty member, given the total number of students in the program, in line with Article (48), and this includes teaching assistants And lecturers at the university or other Saudi universities, and the Deanship of Graduate Studies Council has the right to make an exception based on the recommendation of the department and college councils, in a way that does not affect the quality of the outputs. b) The number of students admitted in one batch to the master’s program is not less than (5) students, and to the doctoral program is
- students, and the Council of the Deanship of Graduate Studies has the right to make an exception to this; Based on the recommendations of the department and college councils. 3- The percentage prescribed for accepting scholarship students, which is (5%), is not counted within the number specified for admission to the program.
- Students deferred for admission are not counted within the number specified for admission in the current year, and the Deanship of Graduate Studies has the right to call others from the reserve list in case the specified number is not completed, provided that the numbers of those deferred are calculated within the number specified for admission in the following year.
- The department may suspend admission to a program that causes a deficit in the faculty members, or in the necessary financial capabilities.
Article XIII
In general, admission to postgraduate studies requires the following: 1. The applicant must be a Saudi, or an official scholarship for postgraduate studies if he is a non-Saudi. 2. The applicant should not have obtained a university degree from a Saudi university, or from another recognized university. 3. He must be of good conduct, and medically fit. 4. To submit two academic recommendations from professors who previously taught him. 5. The approval of his reference to study if he is an employee. 6. The basis for a full-time doctoral study, and the University Council may make an exception to that when the need arises*.
7. The council of each university may add to these general conditions what it deems necessary.
Executive rules:
1- In addition to the conditions stipulated in the origin of this article, the student must successfully pass any test or personal interview determined by the department council or the college council.
2- The Deanship of Graduate Studies undertakes, each year, to coordinate with the specialized colleges and departments to raise their admission requirements in a way that does not contradict what was stipulated in the regulations and what was stated in their implementing rules.
3- The Deanship of Graduate Studies shall place the admission forms automatically, announce the conditions to applicants, and clarify the documents required for admission to postgraduate programs; Based on what is submitted to it from the colleges.
4- Submission shall be through the electronic portal, and within the time period announced by the Deanship.
5- The application for admission shall be canceled for students who have been informed of their candidacy for admission, and who did not complete their admission procedures on the specified dates, or who were late for the scheduled tests or the personal interview.
6- It is permissible for the master’s student to study on a part-time basis, with the approval of the holder of the authority in the workplace to which the employee belongs.
- Full dedication to the doctoral study shall be in one of the following: a) Not being engaged in a job for a period not less than the minimum period stipulated for obtaining the qualification Scholarship from the employer. b) An administrative decision conferring authority at the applicant’s employer on full-time work for a period not exceeding a period
The systematic study of the courses.
8- It is permissible to exclude from the sabbatical the following cases with justifications for the purpose of completing the full sabbatical, with the necessity of the approval of his reference, based on the recommendation of the department and college councils, the endorsement of the Dean of Graduate Studies, and the approval of the University Council.

Article XIV
For admission to the diploma level, the student must obtain at least a grade of (good) in the undergraduate level.
Executive rules:
1- The comparison scores will be distributed as follows: a) At least 60% of the total score due for the bachelor’s degree average. b) 30% at most of the total score due for the written test. c) 10% at most of the total score due for the oral exam.
2- To enter the oral exams, the applicant’s score in the written exam must not be less than 50%.
3- The total sum must not be less than 60% to enter the comparison.
4- Admission takes place after the applicants fulfill all the necessary conditions and procedures, according to preference in the grades earned are according to the specified number.
Article XV **
Admission to the (Master’s) level requires that students obtain at least a grade of (very good) in the undergraduate level, and the Council of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies may accept those with a grade of (good, high). The Council of the Deanship of Higher Studies, based on the recommendation of the Department Council, may endorse the admission of those with a grade (good) to some programs determined by the University Council, provided that the student’s GPA in all cases is not less than ( (Very Good) in specialization courses at the bachelor’s level. The Council of the Deanship of Graduate Studies, based on the recommendation of the Department Council, and the endorsement of the College Council, may add other conditions it deems necessary for admission.
Executive rules:
- The scientific departments ensure that the admission requirements are met, and that all documents are available, then compare the applicants by giving each applicant a score out of one hundred distributed as follows: a) The average of the applicant at the bachelor’s level and SS him (50%). b) Written or oral exams, a general aptitude test for undergraduates, or other criteria that the department deems appropriate, for which (50%) is allocated. c) In order for the applicant to enter the final examination, he must obtain a percentage of no less than (60%) of the total score in Paragraph (b). d) Admission takes place after fulfilling the conditions and procedures according to the highest degree obtained from the sum of paragraphs (a, b), and according to the specified number.
- It is desirable for those who obtained a grade (good) in addition to what was mentioned in this article, that the numbers submitted to the department be less than what was determined by Implementation Rule No. (2) of Article (12), and that this be based on clear scientific justifications provided by the department. Study System
Article thirty two
Studying for a diploma consists of academic courses, field, applied, and laboratory work according to the following:
1- The duration of the study is not less than two semesters, and not more than four semesters. 2- The number of academic units is not less than (24) units and not more than (36) units. Based on the proposal of the specialized department and college councils, and the recommendation of the Graduate Studies Deanship Council, the University Council determines the courses required to obtain the diploma and the title of the certificate.
Executive rules:
- The duration of the diploma, its courses, and description are determined according to the form designated for approving postgraduate programs.
- The units in one semester should not be less than nine units and not more than eighteen units.
- The name of the diploma, its description, and the name of the certificate awarded shall be specified within the program.
Article Thirty Three***
Studying for a master’s degree is done in one of the following two ways:
- By academic courses and the thesis, provided that the number of academic units is not less than twenty-four units, in addition to the thesis.
- In courses in some specializations, provided that the university council is left to determine the number of academic units required according to the nature of the specialization, so that the number of academic units is not less than thirty units, and it is taken into account that the study plan for the master’s degree includes She will take postgraduate courses related to the specialization from other departments whenever possible.

Executive rules:
- The department specifies the academic units for the thesis with more than (30%) of the academic degree requirements if the program includes courses and the thesis.
- If the program includes academic courses, it must include a research project of at least three hours.
Article thirty four
Studying for a doctorate is done in one of the following two ways:
- By academic courses and the thesis, with no less than thirty units of postgraduate courses after the master’s degree, in addition to the thesis.
- The thesis and some courses, provided that the number of prescribed units is not less than twelve units, which are allocated for directed studies, seminars, or research seminars, according to the scientific composition of the student and his exact specialization.
Executive rules:
1) The department specifies the academic units for the thesis with more than (40%) of the academic degree requirements if the program includes courses and a thesis.
2) The department specifies the academic units for the thesis with more than (70%) of the academic degree requirements if the program is for the thesis and some courses.
Article thirty five
The academic year is divided into two main semesters, each of which lasts for fifteen weeks, and includes the registration and exam periods, and a summer semester, which lasts for eight weeks, during which the time allotted for each course is doubled. Studying in some faculties may be on the basis of the full academic year, according to the rules and procedures approved by the University Council, in a manner that does not contradict the provisions of this bylaw.
Executive rule:
When there is a requirement to make the study in the program on the basis of the full academic year; The Council of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies, in coordination with the academic departments, sets the organizational rules and procedures for the study.
Article thirty six
- The period prescribed for obtaining a master’s degree is not less than four semesters and not more than eight semesters, and summer semesters are not counted within this period.
- The period prescribed for obtaining a doctoral degree is not less than six semesters and not more than ten semesters, and summer semesters are not counted within this period.
Executive rule:
The semester in which the department cannot teach courses is not counted as part of the maximum period for obtaining a degree.
Article thirty seven
The maximum period for obtaining an academic degree is calculated from the beginning of enrollment in postgraduate courses, until the date the student supervisor submits a report to the department chair along with a copy of the thesis, or any other requirements of his program.
Executive rule:
- The student may benefit from the leave that follows the semester at the end of which the maximum period for obtaining the degree expires, provided that he submits his thesis before the start of the study of the next semester.
- Calculation of the period for the student ends if he studies in the course method by fulfilling the graduation requirements, provided that the period does not exceed what is stipulated in Article No. (36).
- The date on which the supervisor submitted the report on which this article will be based should not exceed what is mentioned in Article No.(36) and its executive rule.
Article thirty eight
The number of academic units that the postgraduate student studies at the university that will grant him the degree is not less than seventy percent (70%) of the number of required units, and he must complete the preparation of his thesis under the supervision of serapha.
Executive rule:
The student studying in the course method must prepare his research project under the supervision of the university that will grant him the degree.
Article thirty nine
The student does not graduate until after completing the academic degree requirements, and with a cumulative average of no less than (very good).
Examination System
Article forty
Examinations are conducted in postgraduate courses to obtain a diploma, master’s, or doctoral degree, and grades are recorded, in accordance with the regulations of study and examinations for the undergraduate level issued by the Council of Higher Education in its second session held on 11/6/1416 AH, with the exception of The following: 1- The student is not considered successful in the course unless he/she obtains at least a grade (good) in it. 2- With regard to alternative exams and courses whose study requires more than one academic semester, the Graduate Studies Deanship Council takes what it deems appropriate based on the recommendation of the department council and the approval of the concerned college council. ss. 3- That the master’s student – if his study program so requires – and the doctoral student, after completing all the required courses, pass a comprehensive written or oral examination that is not held by a specialized committee in accordance with rules approved by the University Council based on the recommendation of the Department Council and the approval of the Council o The relevant college and the Council of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies. This test is in the student’s major and minor majors, if any. A student is considered a candidate for obtaining the degree if he passes the test the first time, but if he fails in it or part of it, he is given one chance within two semesters, and if he fails, his enrollment is cancelled.
Articles of the study and examination regulations for the undergraduate level referred to in Article (40)
First: Tests and Assessments:
- (Article Twenty Two):
Based on the proposal of the department council, the college council to which the course follows determines a score for semester work that is not less than (30%) of the final score of the course.
Executive rule:
Term work (examinations and assignments or research and projects) ends with the beginning of the final exams.
- (Article Twenty Three):
The course’s semester work score is calculated in one of the following two ways: (a) oral, practical, research, or other types of classroom activity, or all of them, or some of them, and at least one written test. (b) At least two written exams.
- (Article Twenty Four):
The council of the college to which the course follows may - based on the recommendation of the department council - facilitate practical or oral exams from the final exam in any course, and determine the grades to be allocated from the grades of the final exam.
- (Article Twenty Five):
The department council that teaches the course may - based on the recommendation of the subject teacher - allow the male / female student to complete the requirements of any course in the next semester, and the male / female student has an incomplete grade (for) or (IC) in his academic record. Only the grade obtained by the male/female student after completing the requirements of that course will be counted in the semester or cumulative average, and if one academic semester has passed and an incomplete grade (L) or (IC) in the student’s record for not completing it, so it will be replaced
A failing grade (E) or (F), which is calculated within the semester and cumulative GPA.
- (Article Twenty Six):
Courses in seminars, research, and courses of a practical or field nature may be excluded from the provisions of Articles (22, 23, 25) or some of them, by a decision of the College Council based on the recommendation of the Department Council that teaches the course. The College Council measures the achievement of the male/female student in these courses.
- (Article Twenty Seven):
If the study of research courses requires more than one academic semester, the student is given a continuous grade (P) (IP), and after the student finishes studying the course, he is given the grade he/she received. Accordingly, and if the course is not completed in the specified time, the department council that teaches it may agree to supervise
An incomplete grade (L) or (IC) in the student's record.
Executive rule:
The provisions of Article (40) of the Unified Regulations for Postgraduate Studies must be observed in the courses that require more than one academic semester.
- (Article Twenty Eight):

Executive rule:
The provisions of Article (40) of the Unified Regulations for Postgraduate Studies must be taken into consideration if the postgraduate student scored less than (70) marks in the course.
- (Article Twenty Nine):
The working grade for the cumulative GPA at the graduation of the male/female student is based on his/her cumulative average as follows: 1- (Excellent): If the cumulative average is not less than (4.50). 2- (Very Good): If the cumulative average is from (3.75) to less than (4.50).
- (Article Thirty):
The first honors rank is granted to the male/female student who has a cumulative GPA of (4.75) to (5.00) upon graduation, and the second honors rank is granted to the male/female student who has a cumulative average of (4.25) to less than (4.75) upon graduation. graduation. To obtain the first or second honors degree, it is required: (a) The student must not have failed in any course he studied at the university or at another university. (b) That the student has completed graduation requirements within a maximum period of time between the minimum and maximum period to remain in his college.
Executive rule:
A postgraduate student is required to have studied at the university from which he will graduate at least (70%) of the graduation requirements, according to Article (38) of the Unified Regulations for Postgraduate Studies in Universities.
Second: Final Examination Procedures:
- (Article Thirty One):
The College Council may form a committee to cooperate with the departments in organizing the work of the final exam, and its tasks are to review the transcripts and submit them to the concerned committee within a period not exceeding three days from the date of the examination of any course.
- (Article thirty two):
The College Council may decide to apply confidentiality in final examination procedures.
- (Article Thirty Three):
The course instructor prepares the test questions, and when necessary, based on the proposal of the head of the department, they may be placed by someone chosen by the College Council.
- (Article Thirty Four):
The course instructor marks the final examination papers for his course, and the head of the department - when needed - may have one or more specialists accompany him in marking, and the College Council may - when necessary - assign the marking to who sees it.
- (Article Thirty Five):
The one who corrects the final exam records the grades obtained by the students in the score sheets prepared for that, signs it, and then the department head approves it.
- (Article Thirty Six):
Is it permissible for a male/female student to be tested in more than two courses on one day, and the university council may make an exception from that?
- (Article Thirty Seven):
A male/female student is not allowed to enter the final exam after half an hour from its start, just as he/she is allowed to leave the exam before half an hour has passed from its start.
- (Article Thirty Eight):
Failing an exam, attempting to take it, or violating the instructions and rules for conducting the exam are matters for which the male/female student will be punished according to the student disciplinary regulations issued by the University Council.
Executive rule:
This course is for bachelor’s degrees in the master’s and doctoral levels.
Article (26) of the Unified Regulations for Postgraduate Studies, which stipulates that the student’s enrollment is canceled by a decision
From the Council of the Deanship of Graduate Studies if he breaches academic integrity, whether at the stage of studying courses or preparing the thesis, or if he commits an act that violates university regulations and traditions, and the provisions of Paragraph (8) of Article Five are taken into consideration in this regard. - (Article Thirty Nine):
The council of the college that teaches the course may - in cases of necessity - approve the re-marking of the answer sheets within a period not exceeding the beginning of the exams of the next semester.
- (Article 40):
Based on the recommendation of the department council, the college council determines the major for the final written exam, provided that it is not less than one hour and not more than three hours.
Executive rule:
If the student is unable to attend the final exam in any course due to a compelling excuse; The department and college councils may accept his excuse and allow him to give him an alternative examination, within the period not exceeding the end of the next academic semester.
- (Article forty-one):
Without prejudice to the provisions contained in Articles (31-40), the university council sets the regulations for final examination procedures.
