Faculty of Engineering celebrates the eighth Engineering day The vice-rector of the University of King Khalid for Educational and Academic Affairs, Prof. Saad bin Muhammad bin Daaj supervised on the morning of Tuesday, 3 December 2019, the activities of the eighth engineer day, in the presence of the dean of the college of engineering, Dr. Ibrahim bin Idris Falqi, a faculty members and students. The activities of Engineer Day began with a discussion session with the Director of Tourism Development in the Asir region, Engineer Saad Thaqfan, and a member of the Asir region council, Engineer Hassan Al-Shehri, during which a brief summary of their professional experiences in the engineering field was presented, and the conversation also touched on the importance of engineering in its various fields in achieving development, and how to deal with obstacles And skip it in the future. After that, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Ibrahim Falqi, held an open meeting with the students and in the presence of the vice dean of the college and heads of the college departments, to answer students for the questions and inquiries, stressing the importance of advancing the profession of the engineer and raising his level and encouraging creativity and innovation to achieve an internationally recognized position for the Saudi engineer, and then his role in the development. The Kingdom is witnessing a comprehensive revival, development acceleration and economic reforms that stimulate the aspiration for a promising future and renewed prosperity. The Vice President for Educational and Academic Affairs also opened an exhibition for graduation projects for the college students, which included 39 research posters in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering. During his tour of the accompanying exhibition, Professor Ibn Daajam praised the students' projects for their diversity and importance in developing and innovating new mechanisms that contribute to the university achieving excellence in the fields of engineering. The activities of the Engineering Day concluded with organizing a simulation of job interviews from the training unit and the graduates, through which the graduates were trained in the job interview, by conducting interviews in which the graduate determines the desire ahead, and then directs him to what suits him according to his performance in the interview.
Mechanical Engineering Department Scientific Seminar Title: Biodiesel From Direct Transesterification It is a well-known fact that energy consumption is rapidly increasing due to population growth, the higher standard of living and increased production. A significant amount of energy resources are being consumed by the transportation sector leading to the fast depletion of fossil fuels and environmental pollution. Biodiesel is one of the technically and economically feasible options to tackle the aforesaid problems. Biodiesel may be produced by various methods however; biodiesel prepared from Direct Transesterification has reduced reaction timing and acidic value for biodiesel produced besides improved yield.
Seventh Scientific Seminar for Engineering College organized by the Electrical Engineering Department, 1441 H A Seminar was hosted by the Electrical Engineering Department titled “Speech as a Biomedical signal using Artificial Intelligence” was Presented by Dr. Mohammed Usman Farooq for the Faculty of Engineering on Wednesday 20/11/2019. The seminar was attended by all Chairman’s, faculty members and students from the college of engineering. The presentation focused on the diagnosis of speech for both resting state and post-physical activity state to serve as a signal in detecting heart-rate. The detection and classification were accomplished using the Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) which were used to train and test with various algorithms using machine learning (ML) to achieve promising results. At the end of the presentation during the Q&A session most of the faculty members placed queries which added to the main goal of the seminar i.e., the Teaching-Learning Process. Finally, all the chairman’s and faculty members praised Dr. Usman for his contribution and efforts in making the seminar fruitful.
The participation of the students of the College of Engineering  in a skill development course: The Skills of team management The skill club of King Khalid University presented a course on how to manage a team effectively. The course focused on how to build teams and identify the characters and patterns and the distribution of appropriate tasks for each team member and natural ways to motivate them. .
Scientific Visit for Mechanical Engineering Department’s Students to the Shoqaik Steam Power Generation Plant In the practical application framework of the theoretical study, the students of Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, King Khalid University attended a scientific visit to the Shoqaik Steam Power Generation Plant under the supervision of Dr./ Baiumy El-Assal and Eng./ Waleed Saeed. The visit was very useful for the students, where they had seen most of the parts that they learned in the Power Plants course. In the start of the visit Eng./ Ahmed Al Qarawi (Manager of Technical Support) held a meeting with the students, explained some important information about the plant and gave them some advice about how to take the advantage of their time before and after graduation. Also, he explained the model of the whole plant in detail. Then, Students were accompanied by engineer/ Abdelaziz Aal Saleh (Chairman of Planning and Materials Department) on a tour in the station. He introduced a detailed explanation of all the station components from the beginning of the water intake from the sea and the various stages of water purification processes. A Brief Explanation for the water pumps and their types and the RO desalination units, that has had an effective impact on the gained information for students. Students also watched all the Power Plant components of boilers, fuel systems, burners, and turbines. At the end of the visit Eng. Khalid Bani Sarh (Manager of the Plant) held a meeting with the students where he welcomed them, thanked them for the visit and talked about the importance of linking education to industry and then presented them with souvenirs from the station.
